Club Goin' Up... on a Tuesday
The New Year's resolution is kicking off on a good note. After a particularly lackluster of day at work, I came across tickets for an Eric Nam concert for his There and Back Again tour. I only know of him, and nothing really pertaining his music, but for $50 to avoid going home and streaming some Netflix? That was a no brainer. One of the homies came through and with that we were off. It was her first Kpop adjacent concert and coupled with the excitement of an impulse activity on a weekday (!!), the overall night turned out pretty dope. Because we were working gals, we managed to get there a little over thirty minutes before doors open. And if you're going to know anything more about me, it's this: if I'm on time, I am late and if I am early I am on time.
Anyway, like any promising concert, the line just wrapped around like a wild thang. The venue was bigger than I expected and even from the way back, the views were great. The opening act was Lyn Lapid. As this was a last minute shindig, we were unfamiliar with who she was. But damn, what a nice little surprise! Her sound was very coffee shop acoustic and I can understand how her music can go viral on TikTok, I can dig it. I already got "In My Mind" downloaded, plus she's on my radar...if that means anything.
We met a fellow ARMY and Eric fanatic there as well as her group dropped out last minute. Their loss, and shiettt, if I already spent money on tickets or I just really want to see a certain act, I would be going with or without a crew. Like damn. But she was definitely a real fan, citing that this would have been, if I remember correctly, her third time seeing him. Plus, she gave us hints as to when to turn up and what his turn up songs were. Wherever you are, hope you got home safe and continue to get better tickets and seats to see your boo...with his dancers, of course.
And then he arrived. With a blue silk shirt half tucked in to the front, flowing as he kicked and spun and twirled around, and tight white jeans, boy was body rollin' and killing the choreography. I saw no dad moves despite what he said. We had put his new album on during the drive to the Observatory, but then the chisme took over the convo so we really didn't know what to expect. I expected a lot of slow jams, acoustic type sound but goddamn. Boy had back to back hype shit and I don't know how he could keep up with those notes. From his new album, I can highly attest to "One Way Lover" (explicit...oooh lol) and "Lost on Me". He was very charming, the voice was there, the moves were there and it was a great night. Side note: as we found out on our way home, this dude is 33 years old?! And no back problems like us? Boii if you don't...
And continuing my concert series, I already secured some Benito tickets this fall. Anyway, listen to some Nam: because this song is currently on repeat.
